BHP Billiton's iron ore output in the second quarter of fiscal year 2023 increased by 1% year-on-year

On January 19, BHP Billiton released its production performance report for the second quarter of fiscal year 2023 (October 1, 2022 - December 31, 2022). According to the report, in the second quarter of fiscal year 2023, BHP Billiton's iron ore output reached 74.3 million tons, an increase of 1% year-on-year and 3.6% month-on-month. The total iron ore sales decreased by 0.74% year-on-year and 3.6% month-on-month. In addition, its Samarco iron ore business in Brazil continued to operate, and its output in the fourth quarter was 1.095 million tons, down 5% year-on-year and up 6% year-on-year.
According to the performance report, BHP Billiton produced 146 million tons of iron ore (100% equity) in the first half of 2023, up 1% year-on-year and 1% month-on-month. BHP Billiton pointed out in the report that its iron ore production target in the 2023 fiscal year will remain unchanged, that is, 278 million tons to 290 million tons, and the guidance target of Samarco iron ore production is 3 million tons to 4 million tons.
In its quarterly report for the fourth quarter, BHP Billiton pointed out that China is continuously promoting the recovery of demand in the downstream and real estate sectors through policy guidance. China's comprehensive opening-up has released its determination to promote economic recovery. BHP Billiton expects that China's steel production will exceed 1 billion tons in 2023.
